What is Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation?
What is Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation?
An extra service offered at BCNC is our Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation appointments. A longer appointment time allows for a more in depth movement analysis. This service can help fix the way you move through a combination of musculoskeletal rehabilitation and chiropractic adjustments.
By measuring movement patterns in functional activities, we can identify meaningful impairments and muscle imbalances. By addressing the most dysfunctional, (often non-painful) movement pattern, targeted manual therapy and therapeutic exercises can be implemented in fewer visits.
Who is this service for?
Musculoskeletal rehabilitation is not just for back pain, but also pre and post surgery, work or sports related injuries, longstanding postural problems and chronic movement dysfunction.
What do we do?
We diagnose and correct these musculoskeletal issues through a variety of treatments. A detailed medical history is followed by a thorough physical exam.
Through musculoskeletal rehabilitation, we address the root of the problem: lack of mobility and/or dysfunctional motor patterns.
For mobility issues, the treatment focuses on resolving locked up joints and tissues with gentle adjustments, specific manual therapy and advice for activity and lifestyle modification.
With motor control issues, the treatment essentially reinstalls the software in your brain, by teaching your muscles how to activate correctly. We restore functional movement patterns by utilizing corrective exercises and stretches.
After every appointment, each patient is given a report and set of home instructions via email. At BCNC we can also take pictures and videos for patients to use as a reference.
What collaborations do we have with this service?
If we feel that it is best to co manage with another practitioner, we have a network of high-level practitioners (remedial massage and myotherapists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, medical doctors) to refer to. We will also co-manage with any previous practitioners that a patient wishes to continue seeing.
